Julia Jacklin releases new track ‘Cold Caller’, announces new tour (Music Insight)

Indie folk and art pop singer Julia Jacklin has been turning heads ever since she broke onto the Australian music scene with her 2016 debut record Don’t Let the Kids Win. The record saw huge success for Jacklin, debuting in the Top 50 of the ARIA charts and receiving two ARIA nominations.

After following up with her equally acclaimed sophomore effort, Eastwick / Cold Caller in September this year, Jacklin has released a brand new single from the record, ‘Cold Caller’, along with a new music video.

‘Cold Caller’ sees Jacklin pull together her folk-pop influences to deliver a delightful musical blend that contrasts with lyrics about self-doubt, with the music video of Jacklin dancing serves as a suitable accompaniment to the vibe of the track.

“Over my 5 years of dancing training I accumulated about 4 dance moves, which have all been utilised in this clip,” Jacklin said of the music video.

“You could say it all started here in this dance studio in my hometown, Springwood, where beginning at the age of 11, I laboured and then learned that I was not going to be a professional dancer. Nevertheless for those five years I did my best; tap danced at a casino in a high vis one-piece to ‘Working Class Man’, waved my arms repeatedly around at an event held in a McDonald’s car park to Enya’s ‘Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)’, crammed my pre-pubescent body into silver hot pants for Pink’s ‘Get this Party Started’.

“It’s still my favourite thing to do, and this song is about something worrying, but also something incredibly joyful and all I could think to do to express that was to dance.”
